Our Mission

Transparency, accountability, and resilience through public exposure awareness.

Why Project Broken Mirror Exists

Our mission is to make the United States' digital front door visible, understandable, and safer for everyone.

Project Broken Mirror unites volunteers, researchers, and defenders to map and monitor the nation's exposed infrastructure, raise awareness where risk is greatest, and support those working to secure it. We believe security is a shared civic duty — not a partisan fight and not a profit center.

What We Do

Measure

We aggregate non-intrusive attack surface results such as exposed services, observable endpoints, and configuration indicators to produce high-level visibility.

Contextualize

We map observable exposure geographically and categorize it to help stakeholders understand relative risk and trends over time.

Enable Action

We aim to help organizations prioritize fixes and allocate effort effectively by translating findings into actionable results.

Core Principles

  • Do No Harm — Operate safely, legally, and ethically.
  • Transparency & Honesty — Open methods, open data, clear motives.
  • Responsible Disclosure — Alert asset owners and give them a chance to fix before publicizing.
  • Mission Before Money — Serve the public good, not corporate agendas or politics.
  • Empowerment Through Knowledge — Give defenders and communities the tools to act.
  • Better Together — Security improves when we collaborate rather than compete.

Get Involved

Project Broken Mirror relies on volunteers to validate findings, improve accuracy, and help guide responsible outreach.
